All sailboats are welcome (cruisers, dinghies, racers, floaters) etc. The race historically has been a relaxed race including several cruising sailboats from the area. Pack a lunch, do some great open class racing, and enjoy the lower harbor and 4th of July festivities!! After the race we will meet back up at the MYC for results, refreshments, and recaps.

The race will utilize the 2008 Portsmouth Yardstick Handicap. The formula gives boats a corrected time depending on the boats handicap and the elapsed time to finish. Other factors such as: average wind speed, number of crew, and use of spinnakers are also used to make corrections. The race committee will try to set a windward/leeward course inside of the break-wall. The skippers meeting is at 10:30AM at the Marquette Yacht Club with the race starting at approximately at noon. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 920-475-6643 or email me at up_mambo@mac.com

6 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

6.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

6.2 Competitors are entirely responsible for their own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing reduces this responsibility. It is for competitors to decide whether their boat and its helm and crew are fit to sail in the conditions that they might find. By launching or going to sea competitors confirm their boat is fit for those conditions and that they are competent to sail and compete in them. Nothing done by the organizers can reduce the responsibility of the owners and/or competitors, nor will it make the organizers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organizers encompass everyone helping to run the event and include the organizing authority, and race committee.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the great turn out on Saturday! The race was greeted with a beautiful day and a wonderful breeze and we even had sunny blue skies for icing on the cake! The racing was competitive and beautiful to watch and I am sure the beach dwellers at south beach got a great show. I would also like to thank Michael Tractman for coming out and working the race committee with me on Saturday. Michael had the opportunity to take some great photos using a telephoto and I will get them posted on the web page as soon as I can.

The line honors go to Jim Knape who sailed Lickety Split single-handedly to victory in very shifty conditions! Jim rigged his tiller with a continuous control line that went to the bow which allowed him to even fly a spinnaker on the reach and run legs!

A few notes on the results posted below. Even though the Portsmouth Shorthanded Modifying Factor (MF) was being used it had no effect on the handicapping (HC) of the corrected time. The racing took place in a Beaufort Wind Scale of 2, which is 4 to 6 knots of breeze. The (MF) at that wind range is 1.000, and has no net change on the HC of individual boats. For example, If we would have been sailing in a Beaufort scale of 3 or higher, the MF would have come into play with a 1% bonus and would continue increase with wind velocity.
