Ensign Fleet 35 Spring Meeting Minutes

   April 16, 2008
   Location: M, M & K
   Call to Order: 1700

Committee Boat:

We discussed the use of the Committee Boat, which is owned by Wim and others. Wim will look into dock options and find a spot. Possibilities are to rent a portion of Wim’s 50-foot slip on the Association Dock, or the floating dock at Frazier’s boat yard. However, Wim did not know if Pete was going to install the floating dock at all this year. Tony Cline on the Race Committee said he prefers the floating dock at Frazier’s. Wim could not give us a firm rental price if it is kept on the Association Dock. Wim will contact Pete Frazier about renting his floating dock. The fleet agreed to provide labor to help Pete install the dock if we rent it.

Fleet Dues:

Yearly dues for Ensign Fleet 35 were set at $150 per boat. Also required is full membership in MYC and the Ensign National Class Association.

Sailing Clinic:

Jeff Millin has arranged for professional sailing coach Andrew Kerr to conduct a sailing clinic for the fleet on June 21 & 22. Costs will be $180 per boat, which is a fantastic price. Saturday will be a clinic on shore, and then drills and practice on the water, which will be filmed. Saturday evening will be a dinner with review of the day. Sunday will be a mini regatta with lots of short races and a review on land afterwards. Jeff will provide more details and will coordinate the event.

Fleet building:

1) Rotary Club 'Mixer'

Al Raymond will coordinate a Saturday event with members of the Rotary Club invited to come sailing on the Ensigns, with the Rotary providing a barbeque afterward. Al will report back with a date and details.

2) 'Celebrity Race'

Jim Knape suggested that one of our non-scored Wednesday-night races be a celebrity race where each boat invites a prominent person or two to sail on each boat. Potential people to invite would be media people, presidents and officers of organizations, politicians, potential Ensign owners, etc. Al Raymond, Jim Knape, and Wim McDonald will organize the invite list and work on details.

Region V Championship

The following boats plan to attend the Regional in Cedarville:

  • Split
  • Zonker
  • Eh?

  • It was agreed that the fleet will sponsor two kegs of beer for the Regional, Doug Tosa volunteered to lead a crew to show up early and help out in any way needed.

    Nationals:

Jeff Millin will be representing Fleet 35 in Niantic.

    Race Schedule:

    Race courses and sailing instructions:

An offset buoy at the windward mark was approved and will be used at the discretion of the race committee. It will be the responsibility of each boat to look for the offset buoy and to round if it has been set. Other than that, rules and courses will same the same as 2007. Neil Lynch will make changes and distribute a copy of the 2008 sailing instructions.

    Website:

Jason Moody volunteered to work on the MYC and Ensign web site, Dave Manson suggested it include a list of people wanting to crew and will provide Jason with a list that was already started. Jason invites everybody to send content to him – especially some good pictures.

    Treasurer's Report:

Neil presented a Treasurer’s Report. We have $2,878 in the checkbook prior to any 2008 dues being paid. 2007 revenues were $3,118. 2007 expenses were $1,298. Net worth of Ensign Fleet 35 has increased by $1,829. If we keep this up we might be able to afford a committee boat some day.
