augtember

August 27th, 2010

Well, to continue with the “time fly’s” theme the whole month of August has been a blur.  A very fun blur, I might add.

The 2010 Ensign Region V Regatta hosted by Ensign Fleet 35 and the Marquette Yacht Club was a great success.  We crowned a new Champion, our very own Eric “Zeb” Seaborg.  Hats off to the skipper and crew of “eh?”

The following week five Ensigns from Marquette traveled to Cedarville for the 2010 Ensign National Regatta and were rewarded with a spectacular venue, gracious hosts and plenty of wind.  The top finisher from Marquette was Jeff Millin who garnered a Second Place Overall in his new boat “Man O’War”.  In addition to Jeff, be sure to ask Jim Knape, Eric Seaborg, Richard Anderson and me about the trip and we will leave it up to you to decide fact from fiction.

This Saturday morning the Marquette Yacht Club will host the White Rocks Race.  The skippers meeting is at 8:30 am at the MYC Clubhouse and the race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.  The forecast looks good so come on down and have some fun.  The Notice of Race is online here.

On Wednesday September 1st, 2010 beginning at 4;30 pm at the MYC there will be a Man Overboard Seminar and Drill hosted by Richard Anderson and Chad Lewis.  Make sure that everyone you know that spends time on the water is extended an invitation to attend.  That evenings Ensign Race will be postponed approximately 30 minutes to allow for the seminar.

Looking just a little further ahead, the Annual MYC Labor Day Pot Luck Picnic will be held on Monday September 6th beginning at 4:00 pm and continuing until we run out of fun.  The Marquette Junior Yacht Club will be joining the party to celebrate their achievements with awards for the students.  This is a great opportunity to meet and congratulate the future members of the Marquette Yacht Club.

Just a couple of housekeeping items, if you have a boat stored at the club in the upland storage facility and have not yet paid for that service contact Stuart Baker, Club Treasurer and second please check the job board for your “prize” and complete your task as scheduled.  If you were not so fortunate to “win” a “prize” please feel free to look around the club and take care of a job that needs to be done.  Thanks.

See you at the Club!

Holy cow is time flying by.  July has officially become August and the fun just doesn’t stop.  The Sailing School has opened its doors for yet another season and has had great attendance.  There are still openings, so please encourage any kids that may be interested to sign up and give it a go.

Ensign Fleet 35 racing has been quite the spectacle this year as we have had a record 18 boats out on the water.  I have heard numerous comments on how much people enjoy watching the action out on the lake every Wednesday night.

On a similar note, Ensign Fleet 35 and the Marquette Yacht Club will be hosting the 2010 Ensign Region V Regatta this coming weekend August 5th through the 8th.  The level of competition will undoubtedly be raised as a number of boats will use this event to tune up for the Ensign National race which begins the following weekend in Cedarville.

I would also like to thank all the “winners” of the recent chore raffle.  Please make sure that you check the board to see when it is your turn to do some cleaning or maintenance.  If you are not on the list we still have a few open spots to fill.

See you at the Club.

Sail-A-Way PLUS a Race!

July 6th, 2010

Well the Independance Day Race that was postponed because of too much wind and has been rescheduled for Saturday July 10th.  The skippers meeting will be at the Marquette Yacht Club at 1:00 pm and the race will begin at about 2 pm.

Saturday July 10th,  the Yacht Club will also play host to the Marquette Rotary for their Sail-a-Way event.  A number of Yacht Club members will be giving rides to Rotary Club members and the Rotary will be serving lunch afterwords.  If you would like to participate call Al Raymond at 249-3534.

The 4th of July Holiday went off very well.  A number of members comented on how good the grounds are looking this year.  There have been a few dedicated members who have taken on maintaince projects and facility upgrade projects that have really enhanced the look and feel of our grounds.  We owe them a B-I-G thank you.

If you haven’t had a chance to help out around the Club yet this year, please do not dispair, there is plenty of work to go around.  You can consider this your invitation to pick up a rake or shovel, take out the garbage or cut the grass or pick one of any number of other tasks that need to be done.  Many hands make the work light, so don’t be afraid to jump in and help out.

See you at the Club,

Your Commodore,

Neil Lynch
